The current house opened in 1972 below the Paramount Plaza office tower at 50th Street. It is operated independently rather than by one of the large Broadway landlords. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was its longest-running production.

The house is in the Theater District, within walking distance of the Times Square-42nd Street subway and transit hub.
