Opened in 1918 as the Selwyn Theatre, built by the Selwyn brothers. It later operated as a movie theatre before Roundabout Theatre Company restored it, reopening it in 2000 as the American Airlines Theatre. It was renamed in 2024 for Roundabout's late artistic director Todd Haimes.

The house is in the Theater District, within walking distance of the Times Square-42nd Street subway and transit hub.
